In the second quarter of 2024, the iOS platform saw varying performance among the top navigation and maps applications in the US. Sensor Tower provides a detailed look at these trends, offering insights into downloads and weekly active users.
Google Maps maintained its strong position, seeing a steady increase in downloads from 28K in the first week of April to 38K by the end of June. Weekly active users fluctuated slightly but closed the quarter with a peak at 8.6M users.
Waze Navigation & Live Traffic experienced a more varied pattern in downloads, starting at around 13K and peaking at 15K towards the end of the quarter. Active users initially decreased to 613K in late May but rebounded to 722K by the end of June.
Google Earth showed an interesting spike in downloads during the third week of April, jumping to 26K before stabilizing around 10K for the remainder of the quarter. Weekly active users saw a modest increase from 87K to 84K over the same period.
MAPS.ME: Offline Maps, GPS Nav had a lower download volume, with numbers ranging from 1K to 1.6K. Despite a dip in mid-quarter, weekly active users ended slightly higher at 2.3K in the final week of June.
The Viaggiare Sicuri app showed variability in downloads with a peak at 1.4K in mid-April, followed by a decline and then a rise to 940 downloads by the quarter's end. Weekly active user data was not available for this app.
